Hands-On with SketchUp and Procreate (Bring Your Own iPad)

The look and feel of your renderings can make or break a design proposal. In this ahnds-on workshop shows you will learn how to combine the best of SketchUp and Procreate on iPad to deliver professional, artistic renderings in record time. We’ll create hand-drawn renderings depicting three seasons that are compelling enough to sell your design, but vague enough to maintain your design options.
An overview of what you will learn:
- Generating the core linework line drawing using Styles and Scenes
- Selecting and customizing the Sketchy Edges Pen in Procreate
- Exporting the final Sketchup scene to Procreate via iCloud Drive
- Adjusting the line scale multiplier to regulate the line weight of the scene
- Creating the Winter Moonlight rendering (1st of 3 seasons we’ll create)
- Using the Procreate color sampler to “borrow” inspiring color pallettes
- Adding landscape context and entourage in Procreate
- Creating and manipulating interior lighting effects by hand
- Creating shadow effects by hand

NOTE: For this class you will need your own iPad running SketchUp and Procreate.

Hands-On with SketchUp for iPad (Bring Your Own iPad)

If you have seen SketchUp for iPad and wondered, “How does that whole thing work?”, then this is the workshop for you! With an emphasis on using the iPad as a tool for on-site design tasks, this workshop will give you an overview of how SketchUp for iPad works and help you start creating and using SketchUp models in a whole new way! Like all workshops you can plan to follow along with the instructor in this session. Unlike other workshops, you will need your an iPad or iPad Pro capable of running SketchUp for iPad. An Apple Pencil is highly recommended as well.

NOTE: For this class you will need your own iPad running SketchUp.

The look and feel of your renderings can make or break a design proposal, so in this draw-along exercise we’ll combine SketchUp and Morpholio Trace to create quick hand-drawn renderings that sell your designs and keep your design options open. Join James Akers as he helps you find inspiration in hand drawing, help you to prep your SketchUp models for export to Morpholio Trace, and give you some hands-on practice turning your SketchUp models into hand-drawn pieces of art!

SketchUp for iPad: A Collaboration Swiss Army Knife

The introduction of modeling and drafting apps built for the iPad has been transformative for the architecture profession. The ability to review, mark up documents and communicate changes has all been elevated with the ability to also create digital models extending the mobility of the design process. In this session will take a look a the fundamentals of 3D modeling on the iPad using the newly revamped Sketchup for iPad. No longer just a viewer, with Sketchup for iPad you can create models, share them via Trimble Connect, mark up and more. As a fundamentals course the overview will be basic enough for beginners to jump in and start creating, but intermediate users could find something that fits into their workflow. In addition, the course will look at the interaction of Sketchup for iPad with two other made for iPad apps that have found a home in the iPad for Architects tool set, Morpholio Trace and Procreate.
