Getting started with SketchUp and Photoshop

There’s a good chance that you are already using one of the best extensions for SketchUp -- Adobe Photoshop -- just without SketchUp models. In this workshop, you’ll learn the fundamentals of organizing SketchUp models for compositing in Photoshop, as well as Photoshop workflows for lighting, layer management, and efficient exports. This is a very hands-on workshop, so a working knowledge of SketchUp and access to Adobe Photoshop are advised.

NOTE: For this class you will need your own computer running SketchUp 2021/2022 Pro and Photoshop.

You Need More Spandex!! Wait, Vertex... Tools

Let's just say it out loud, SketchUp isn't great for organic modeling. You know what is? Quad modeling, sub-division, and vertex editing. If those terms make you raise an eyebrow, well, come explore them with me as we break down some advanced modeling techniques, made possible by some pretty amazing extensions, Sub-D, Vertex Tools, and Quad Tools, by ThomThom.
Quad-modeling is a different paradigm than we are used to with SketchUp, so we'll look at key ideas to consider, some tips for keeping your models clean, and try to push the proverbial envelope of SketchUp's capabilities.

NOTE: For this class you will need your own computer running SketchUp 2021/2022 Pro and possibly one or more extensions provided by the instructor.

Virtual Mockups: The Devil is in the Details

Design and construction details will occasionally contain redundant or conflicting information when referencing overlapping building areas and systems. This conflict often rises out of the use of “typical” details used by the various partner firms. SketchUp helps blend multiple designer’s details to work through the complications before they’re attempted in the field. Katerina will go over her company’s process for creating the virtual mockups and real-world examples of how they’ve been used.
